The Power to do a God-given Job,
and Victory Over Hindrances in Getting it Done

A New Power Within
Acts 1:6-8

". . . you will receive power . . ."

.

— The Need for Jesus

(Why isn't the power I had good enough?)

Name the residents of the human heart from Mark 7:21-23.

From John 15:4,5, what is your power apart from Jesus?

.

— New Life in Jesus

(Does this mean I'm different somehow?)

Read 2 Corinthians 5:17. What does the verse tell us we become when we put faith in Jesus as our Savior? And what is gone?

What are the requirements for pleasing God as listed in Hebrews 11:6.

Who has life according to 1 John 5:11-13?

Read Acts 1:8. What has God promised to give you?

.

— The Indwelling of Jesus

(But where is this power coming from?)

When you receive Jesus into your life (John 1:12), you receive God's gift to you (Ephesians 2:8,9) and you become a child of God. MGod comes into your life . . .

All of God

God's Gift

Read Romans 12:1,2. How much of us does God want?

Read Philippians 3:7. Now list the things in your life that you would give up for Jesus.

Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 again. Are you in Christ? . Describe your "old" nature. . Describe your "new" nature (or the one you should have).

(Note: "Good omitted means wrong committed." — CC Ryrie)

How did you receive Jesus? (Ephesians 2:8,9) And how are you to now live? (Colossians 2:6)

What is God's plan for you in Ephesians 2:10?

What is God's promise for you in Hebrews 13:5?

.

— The Church of Jesus

(Is this all about going to church?)

The world defines "church" as a building or a service. God's definition is Family.

Read John 1:12. Receiving Jesus as Savior makes you one of God's .

Read Ephesians 1:5. If you have trusted Jesus to be your Savior from sin, then you are into His family.

(Church buildings and services don't pray. Only people pray. Acts 12:5.)

Much of the New Testament letters were written to churches. See 1 Thessalonians 1:1 for an example.

The first believers in Jesus: Acts 11:26

The first believers worship together: Acts 2:42

— worshipping God and ministering to one another. —

— An Old Life that is Now Past

(So, how exactly is my life going to change?)

Read Galatians 5:19-21. What are one or two areas of your old "sinful nature?"
Now read the next two verses (Galatians 5:22,23). What are one or two areas you would like to trust God to strengthen in your life? (Write these words down to remind you of this changing process and your need to pray about it.)

Memory Verse

"I have been crucified with Christ
and I no longer live,
but Christ lives in me.
The life I now live in the body,
I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me."
